let's just say i've had pretty bad experience with apple's service department regarding this issue. i can't even call them to discuss it because they want me to pay $50 for a phone call (i'm still under warranty, by the way).
anyway, after lots of kicking and screaming, i got apple to service my laptop (under warranty), that happens to have the logic board problem. they replaced the logic board, and sent the laptop back with a little letter that said my poor installation of poor RAM caused the logic board to fail. they fixed it for me this once, but they won't fix it again.
i'm a tad skeptical about all this, namely because it's Crucial RAM and i had the guy at the apple store install it for me (i didn't have a screwdriver small enough). i'm taking my ram back, with the letter apple sent me, to where i purchased it. i'm afraid, though, that if the logic board fails again (which it seems to do, multiple times), that apple won't fix it.
my S/N doesn't match the S/Ns in the range of the replacement program.
is there anything i can do to get this laptop back under warranty so i don't have to hold my breath every time i open it up?
thanks.

Do you have any documentation that Apple installed your RAM? If so, I'd sure wave that flag. I'd be a tad skeptical of a "your bad RAM, your fault" message as well. Unless they can specifically prove that the RAM was faulty and also wrongly installed... and that's a lot to prove. (Also, the $50 only gets charged if the repair isn't necessary. Still not a chance I'm happy to take. Real glad I live near an Apple Store.)
Just remember, it's still just people on the other end of the line. They aren't Apple, they're just trying to do their jobs. You're trying to convince them to help you, not beat them into submission.
This logic board thing is a mess. I know, I'm on my second iBook, and both needed logic board repairs--the first was eventually replaced. I've spent a lot of time on the phone. Not fun, but being patient's the best way to get help.

Everytime I read all this stories about Apple's service it makes me puke. I would write a letter replying them that the next time they design such a faulty and unreliable laptop I would take my business to another company.
