You know, I find it really interesting how people spend so much money on computers, especially laptops, and then are careless enough to spill stuff on them. No offense, melman, but I don't understand how people can not care enough about their machines to protect them from things like this. In any case, onto your questions (P.S. as my rant attests, others have posted with this problem. A search would provide a quicker solution):

1) You can pop off each key and clean it, but liquid would still be under the keyboard itself. You didn't say which model PB you have, but it's usually only a few screws to remove the keyboard so you can clean under there.

2) I think that's called insurance fraud. And since you've already admitted to already spilling on the computer, I don't think you have much of a chance here.

3) See 2.

4) Again, see 2.

5) This is actually your best bet. See what the store can do for you. If it was a sticky liquid (anything other than water), which it sounds like from your post, if it got to the main logic board, you may be looking at imminent system failure. The Apple Store can give you options.

Sorry about the rant, but it just doesn't make any sense.

No you really can't, think about it, your asking for insurance for something that occured in the past. You cannot do that for a car, in fact you can go to jail for putting a fraudulant claim in. the dollar amounts your talking here (car vs computer) matter not with regard to morality or legality.

Besides your asking all of the other policy holders who paid premiums to pay for your computer when your computer was not covered, that's not fair them.

Insurance 101, policy holders pay premiums to the insurance company and the insurance company then uses those funds to pay out on claims and hopefully make a profit, that is more premiums in then less losses out.

Bottom line is you need to accept responsibility for your own actions, apple or an insurance company shouldn't be left holding the bag. apple - because its not a warranty issue, and the insurance company didn't buy insurance before you spilt your drink.

maflynn must have been attempting to perform an early april fools joke by chiding melman about morality and legality, while having that bush/cheney campaign logo as a signature.

Hmm, this thread will likely give Tavi more ideas ...

remember after all the questions and research he did, he buys his powerbook and within the week he posts about how he totally wrecked his? and tooki got upset because the situation tavi described was similar to what happened to the tookster?

and now he complains about a scratch .. who knows .. might be a super early april fools day .. lol

which brings up something else ...

i was at the apple store, and i noticed all their display ipods look HORRIBLE .. looks like a co-workers ipod .. that he never puts in a case. scuffs and scratches everywhere, dirt from fingers n stuff ... gunk ...

then i check out the ipod mini .. and they looked good as new. only thing that comes off is the apple logo .. it gets scraped off i guess. the finish on the aluminum was spotless.

kinda reminds me of the powerbook/ibook ... just a thought..
