Do your Powerbooks shut down the same way every time?

I have a 17" running 10.3.3.... This isn't a problem but something I have noticed now that I shut down more regularly. Everytime I shut down it is different. Sometime it shuts down real quickly after I select to shut down. Other times it will shade the screen blue and shut down, other times the screen will go completely blue, other times the screen goes black, etc, etc.
I am just curious as to why the shut down operation is not more consistent. Anyone else notice this?

Yep - ever since Panther the shutdown process is somewhat quirky.

Shutdown what's that? My powerbook sleeps when it's not being used. I think I have shut it off all of twice since I bought it in Dec.

I actually used to not shut mone down ever, but lately I shut it down a little more to give it a rest I guess... don't really know why, or if my battery is running real low... But yea the shutdowns are definetly not consistent for me

I do not shut my PB (15" TiBook) down very often, but when I do, my experience is like yours. The shut down process is different each time. I'm running 10.3.3 as well.

Same here. Sometimes shutdown is nearly immediate and others it takes some time.

Do you have .Mac? The majority of the time when my PowerBook takes time to shutdown, it is always the fault of the "MirrorAgent" daemon used to sync the iDisk.

Nobody said they do (can't say my 17" has EVER had an actual shutdown, my 15" maybe a couple of times over several years) - but reboots (which are necessary for some updates) require you to go through the shutdown process.

to me it seems that the more work i've done on the machine, the longer it takes to shut down. i normally only shutdown when i hit the road.

Basically, the OS does a bunch of cleanup when you shut down. It shuts down running processes, cleans up virtual memory files, etc. So yes, the longer you've been running, the longer the cleanup time may be.
