So the rubber strain reliever that connects the plug that connects to the PB has broken from getting bent back and forth a lot. It doesn't bother me, but I'm guessing the strain that it was relieving will now be placed on the cord, and might break it. If the cable wears out and I start getting power problems before my applecare is up, will apple cover it, or should I send it back now and nip any potential problems in the bud?

if you have an apple store nearby, i would just go and exchange it. you shouldn't have any problem doing so. if not, call apple and they should send you a replacement.

I'd take it in. Mine did that and it caught on fire.

FYI The newer Apple power plugs are different in that area and don't have this issue.

i don't know what the very latest power cords have that are different, but my wife just broke this "strain reliever" for the second time. and this time the power doesn't flow properly (you have to squeeze the juice out of it manually).

since she got apple care, i called them up and they are sending a new one tomorrow. you should do the same before your warranty is up. you won't be without it *and you won't catch on fire*

what happened with that? did the powerbook catch too, or just the cord?

what's different about the new cords? anyone have a pic?

the new ones have better strain relievers than the old ones do. call apple, they will send you a new one, and you send them yours back in that box, so you have no time without your power adapter.

Here ya go. This is the new one apple sent me.

The rubber part is much more beefy than the old kind, and the gaps cut into them aren't as big either.
