I read that the DVI to ADC is not compatable with the 17 inch CRT display apple use to make (which is ADC, graphite clear backing). Is there any way I can hook this up to a powerbook? I read that on
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...onID=anonymous|47836985&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com%3a80%2f
Anyone have any idea how I can do this? This monitor cost a lot of money two years ago, and I would hate to let it go. It's so good!
Thanks for your help guys!

Hmm that's quite tough and sh**y of Apple to not include that support. I wonder if a third-party DVI-ACD adapter would do the trick. You could also try calling Apple about it.

I use to have that monitor...it is a great piece of hardware...I loved it...the USB ports on the side, and the ultra flat screen...it was a great CRT...but I had to let it go due to the same reason. I even bought the ADC to DVI convertor from apple, and when I got home and I did not work I was pissed. Apple took back the ADC to DVI with no problem as the guy form the apple store told me it would work....and I had to sell the monitor I miss it.

I have the same monitor -- but a different question. I bought an upgraded video card for my desktop G4 -- but it's DVI and not ADC.
By the way, the apple store people kept insisting this monitor was DVI and not ADC. They also insisted the $100 adaptor would work. I didn't want to put ANOTHER $100 into this 3 1/2-year-old monitor and machine, so I'm still using the original video card.
Anyone know of 3rd-party adaptors that will work or am I out of luck? (It sounds like I'm out of luck.) And it sounds like I couldn't hook my 12-in PB up to this monitor if I tried!
And it is a great monitor. Those two extra USB ports in it have been very handy.

Again, Apple isn't the only one that sells those adapters. Try a third party one. I think Dr. Bott sells a dvi-adc adapter.

I have this great monitor too, but attached to my Desktop as won't work with my PB15AL.
I'm sure that if you strip off the USB and power from an ADC connector you basically have DVI. So surely once you have the power feed sorted there shouldn't be a problem.
Maybe one of the non-Apple vendors like suggested?

How about an ADC-VGA adaptor? Your Powerbook should ship with a DVI-VGA dongle. Plug your CRT monitor into the VGA using a VGA-ADC adaptor and viola!
Froogle search results
You might have to get some male-female adapters for some of the plugs.

That can't work. VGA doesn't carry ADC's extra signals! (Such as the power to the display.)
None of the DVI-ADC adapters support the analog ADC display. They are all DVI-D->ADC, not DVI-I->ADC.
The fact is, you could buy a brand-new 17" monitor of comparable quality for little more than the cost of the DVI-D->ADC adapters that you are looking at. Then by selling the ADC monitor, you could make up the difference.

P.S. The CRT ADC monitor has a Mitsubishi DiamondTron tube, so if you like its image (which is rather nice), get another DiamondTron-based display.

There actually HAVE been like 2 people able to get the ADC-DVI-I function to work.
I believe either the griffin adapter passed through DVI-I but required a DVI-I cable on the other end not a DVI-D cable like they supplied
Long story. I know the PB will take it if you can get it down to DVI-I or VGA, but most adapters are downconverters, not D to A, and you don't need a D to A either, but the downconverters aren't made to reroute the DVI-I's pins to VGA
