Hey I was just wondering if anyone has used the Monster iTV link http://www.smalldog.com/product/12651738 for the iBook. I was looking for a way to connect my iBook to the big screen in the living room. Also... I have a powerbook on the way and wondered if anyone knew if the cable would work for both. The product description is kind of sparse.

You can get a video port (between the 1/8" stereo jack and the first USB port) to RCA/S-Video adapter from Apple for $20. Get your own RCA or S-Video cable (and audio cable) for about $5 at RadioShack.

Anything they sell a Monster cable for you can do yourself for cheaper if you don't mind the inconvenience. Also, if the cable consists only of the parts shown in the picture then I don't understand how it transfers audio. The video port doesn't output audio as far as I know.

And I don't believe iBooks and PowerBooks use the same video port adapter. Poke around on the AppleStore for more info.

Monster's iTV link for iBook is different from the one used for the Powerbook. I love mine. It works perfectly! A worthwhile expense. I appreciate that it is 10 feet of cable, and is an all-in-one solution. Worth the extra cash, IMHO.

The Monster cable has a 1/8" mini-jack and a video plug. That's the beauty of it. It's both in one cable.

The picture only shows one 1/8" jack. So either they're just not showing the other one, or the video out port also outputs sound, or it doesn't carry sound at all. I guess it's not the last one, so which of the other two possibilities is it?

The picture above is the cable for the PowerBook.
The iBooks use a 4th connector on the minijack to carry composite video. No S-video available on the iBooks.

that's the old video adaptor. newer ibooks do not use a modified headphone jack for video. they use use a different adaptor for the video out port and have S-video in addition to composite. here's what it looks like:

the monster cable linked to in the original post supports both ibooks and powerbooks.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking. That's lack of sleep for ya.

But where's the RCA video out!? Not everyone has S-video capable TVs. (Well, I guess everyone buying Monster cables does )
