i'm using the BT500, and i'm transfering about 13 gigs of music from my pb to the desktop (wirelessly). i just noticed a great deal of lag while using the BT mouse. mainly, the pointer is far less responsive; so much so that i just turned it off while the files are working. i'm running albook 1.25 with 512 ram, 10.3.3. anyone else experience this? and would an increase in ram help? thanks in advance.

Indeed. I remember reading somewhere that Apple was quite reluctant to incorporate Bluetooth as it interferes with the 802.11 networks. You have to live with it.

Yes, I've seen the same thing. I don't think it's interference exactly. Simply the transfer sucking up all the bandwidth and the bluetooth connection getting what's left over. If you do the transfer via ethernet there's no slowdown with the Bluetooth mouse.

With a file transfer that large you should just boot your PB in firewire target disk mode and transfer the songs over firewire. Muuucch faster. It would take maybe 30-40 minutes instead of hours and hours over wirelessly.

Or even better yet, use Ethernet or Firewire networking if you don't want to reboot your mac.

I get a similar behavior on 10.3.3, except mine happens when I wake my powerbook up and my airport connection does not automatically re-establish. The response of my Apple bluetooth mouse is very very sluggish until I manually re-establish the airport connection.

Bluetooth and AirPort both operate in the 2.4 GHz band of the wireless spectrum, so they are in fact interfering with each other. It's just the nature of the beast.

This behavior is also evident if you're downloading lots of goat pr0n on someone's 802.11b/g wireless connection while talking with your friends on a 2.4 GHz cordless phone.

Best bet? Use wired ethernet or don't use a Bluetooth mouse.
