Good luck on a 1.8 G4. I wouldn't hold your breath on it.
As for the rest, it looks to be somewhat conservative!

My guess is something around a 200 (+/- 50) Mhz cpu increase on all the iBooks.

are you taking the piss?
these look alot more like the powerbook specs.
if they cant make a g5 powerbook, how are they going to make them better than these specs just quoted?
they do have to justify an increased price, i dont think just a superdrive and glowing keyboard will cut the mustard.
anyone else agree with me on this?
personally, it would be cool to see the return of colours to the ibook line, the current line of macs are looking increasingly plain.

C'mon Apple!
No Firewire 800?
No DVI?
No Better display?
I hope the 12" iBook will get a processor > 1GHz and an ATI card (NVidia one of no use with Linux)...

Since we don't really have the 970fx (or what its name again?) yet, then a PB G5 is still far away. BTW is the G4 really that bad CPU for a portable?

Hell, a 1 GHz PowerPC G3 with 512k L2 cache would be fine in Mac OS X for web browsing, e-mail, and light gaming. A 1 GHz G4 is even better.
No way in hell will there be a 1.8 GHz G5 in an iBook anytime soon. I doubt the next PowerBook revision will include a G5.

It would be nice too if the 256MB of RAM was built-in and not 128MB built-in with 128MB in the expansion slot.
The G4 currently tops out at 1.5GHz.

I would prefer the IBM G3+Altivec.
The G4 architecture is mainly born to give G3 a bit of SMP (multiple processor) support. But iBook don't need SMP.
After the G4 was born, G3 makers focused on faster integer and floating point units, while G4 ones researched parallel optimisations, altivec coprocessor.
So we got G3 without Altivec, with slow BUS and slow PC133 RAM, and so on.
Current G3 (IBM) are faster than G4 (Motorola) at the same clock speed and need less power.
As iBook don't need SMP, all Apple have to do is drop Motorola and adopt IBM G3+Altivec+DDR.

Yes that's true, IIRC the latest generations of the G3 I've heard supported higher bus speeds (200MHz?) or something?

If the 12" iBook hits 1GHz (though I suspect it'll be 933MHz) and if the new graphics chip still works with the display spanning firmware hack, I'll be buying one.
The 12" iBook is small enough and probably fast enough for me, but I need QE-enaqbled dual-display ability (for Keynote and PowerPoint). And I don't need the very slightly smaller but more expensive 12" PB for this feature alone.
Though, with the new models, I bet the 800MHz'ers will be nice and cheap. And I know they work with the display firmware hack.

Agree with you Cadaver, but I also think there is a good chance that Steve will just bump all the modells above xxx MHz. There is some prestige in breaking new barriers and so, and he can use that in his next speak, or something. "Leaving the 1GHz barrier.."
