I own the 1.25 Ghz 15 inch powerbook. Yesterday, it started making some clicking sounds from right under the trackpad area, The clicks happen every 2 minutes or so. Is this a sign that my hardware is failing? the only thing that I have done differently on the machine was to uninstall "dave" the networking app. Should I be really worried, and backing up my data asap?, the technician at apple said that sometimes when the machine tries to read corrupted data it makes clicking sounds....in that case would they not be more random? I've had this machine less than a year and already have sent it in three times due to the white screen of death, and the damage that the technican made to my case not sealing properly. I'm just so frustrated.

all your input is much appreciated.

Sounds like the harddrive is starting to fail or reading corrupted area. May be you can first backup all important data follow by Disk Utility to Verify Permission.

I would recommend getting Drive 10 to scan it completely.

Bah, Repair Permissions has a 0% chance of having ANYTHING to do with this.

First, back uo your data now!!! Your drive might be failing, so don't take the risk of losing data!

Do you have DiskWarrior 3? (It belongs in any Mac owner's arsenal.) I'd suggest installing it to see if the drive is reporting any S.M.A.R.T. errors. If it is, get it replaced ASAP. If it's not, back up your stuff and reformat with zeros to make sure the drive actually gets any bad sectors mapped out.
