When I got my Rev.A 12" PB last summer, I'm pretty sure the recommended procedure for plugging in or unplugging a projector (or external monitor) was to do it while the Powerbook was sleeping. This was under OS 10.1 or 10.2. Just last week a visitor with a TiBook did it this way. There used to be a note on the Apple support site describing this, though it seems to be gone now. It's been a few months since I've had to do it, but now under OS 10.3.3 it seems the best procedure is to do the connecting and disconnecting with the Powerbook awake. Otherwise, when I try to wake up the disconnected Powerbook, sometimes it refuses to wake, and sometimes I get garbled graphics requiring a reboot. Sometimes it works OK.

Does anyone else have any experience with this? I'm quite happy to connect and disconnect with the Powerbook awake, but I don't want any surprises when I'm trying to give a presentation.

I have a 15" PB and I plug it into projectors and other monitors while it is awake. When I plug it in, it automatically adjusts to the correct resolution depending on if I am mirroring or not.

One thing I've noticed is that when I unplug the projector.. I lose the cursur. I have to restart to get it back. Does anyone know what's going on here? Connected via svideo but it worked that way if I used VGA as well...

Sure you are mirroring and not spanning? If you are spanning, the cursor could be on the other display.

And yes, you can plug and unplug displays whether the machine is awake or asleep.

Yeah, I plug mine directly into a monitor all the time. No problems.
