What your think?
Daystar has a G4 upgrade rated at 550 mhz and PowerLogix has a 1 Ghz G3 with additional features over the 900 mhz card they offer.
In reading over a couple of stories at XLR8Yourmac.com, I'm a little skeptical of PowerLogix's reliability record, with about 60% of their users cards going beserk. On the other hand, Daystar wants for you to ship the entire machine to them (not just the daughter card PowerLogix wants) and cleans it too!
Both are about the same price.
I do a lot of Photoshop, Flash and GoLive work on my Pismo 400 Mhz.
So, which is better?

Powerlogix all the way. G3 900 or 1ghz will be better than the G4 upgrade.

Raw speed is better than a G4. Save your receipt and go for the Daystar.

Raw speed.
No contest here. The G3 would beat the G4, even in most AltiVec optimized functions.

The G3 is it's about speed. You see, mhz does matter.

I purchased a 900 mhz upgrade for my Pismo 400 from Powerlogix the summer of 2003 and I love it. It's still kickin, man. I run that machine like a desktop (in that it's always plugged in and running) and it still loves life and it just zips along. I've had no problems with my Powerlogix card.
I'd recommend the Powerlogix card for your Pismo, the mhz really helps.

I also love my 900mz upgrade. I believe the vast majority of problems with PL Powerbook upgrades are caused by poor or improper heat sink installation, and eventually the card simply self-destructs from excessive heat.
My 900 Pismo has been on all day, ran Photoshop tasks with hundreds of images today and it never got above 107ºF. Its 105ºF right now, far far cooler than the original 400 card did. There's no sensation of heat anywhere, no palm rests, keyboard or even the bottom. It been that way since last year when I first installed it.
I do use a PCMCIA slot cooler fan for non-portable use and used high-tech thermal compound instead of the generic supplied paste. But even when portable, it never runs higher than 128ºF with non-stop high CPU use which is cooler than most current Powerbooks with high speed fans wailing.
I posted details of my 900 installation and thermal compound tips here:

Thanks a lot for your feedback!
I think I knew the obvious but needed assurance that PowerLogix wasn't screwing over everybody. They're very nice and I think this will be a terrific upgrade over the long run.
