If a new G4 powerbook comes out, I'm thinking of getting it this week. However, I was wondering what you think the resale value of this would be in two scenarios:

1.) Before the g5 PB's are released

2.) After G5's PB's come out

I want the g5, but i need something interim and would hate to lose a lot of money just for a temp computer.

any ideas, suggestions?

thanks.

Any time a new line comes out, the old ones drop like a rock. Currently, the new, top of the line Powerbooks sell for 2800. The educational price on that is 2500. Now there wasn't too much of an increase in specs on the new model so the old 17" 1.33's shouldn't have devaluated too much: I'd estimate a price of 2200-2400, depending on where you sell it. Now if a G5 comes out, then that would me a massive change in specs. The old models would depreciate dramatically.

if the g5's come out, would the top of the line model right now be worth over 2000?

That one is really hard to say. It depends on the price point of the G5's. If they list at 3200-3500, then yes, your current, top of the line Powerbook will still be worth 2k. Now if they price the G5's at 2500...

The simplest thing to do is to pick up a model that has already depreciated. If you really shop around, you can get a rev A 12" for a little under a grand.
