Does Firewire Target Disk Mode work on Mac OS 8.6?

I am trying to help a friend sync her old imac to her new 17" Powerbook.

If not, any alternatives or fixes?

Thanks in advance.

it's not OS specific, it's firmware specific. You basically need a machine with UMA. So any slot loading imac or newer. Or any G4 tower or newer.... any laptop with firewire should go in target disk, not positive about the pismo.

Alternatives.... ethernet? usb storage devices?
