Any idea? I've an order with the UK apple store, however a surprise trip to NYC next week would see me cancel and buy in SOHO if I could obtain the 128Mb, single SO-DIMM and 5400rpm BTOs in store...

No, only online can you buy a BTO. It would then ship from Taiwan.

All the new powerbooks that they just released have BT standard. If you really wanted you cold get it at teh SOHO store. form what I understand you might save a few bucks too. Unfortunantly, you cannot get the 5400 RPM drive in store. If you order now you might get lucky and get it before you go to NYC, depending when you are leaving.

Well I'm keeping fingers crossed but don't like the chances. I actually ordered and had the acceptance within 15 mins of the store reopening, but the answer of "sorry we are backlogged" when calling them today doesn't fill me with confidence.

I'll be on edge all week if I know the new item is sitting back in the UK waiting to be opened... haha isn't life hard

The Apple retail stores can order a BTO machine for you, but it takes just as long for them to get it as for you to get it directly.

I wonder if they have "stock" top of the line BTO's - all the bells and whistles, at the Apple company store. Or do employees of Apple have to go through the same channels we do?

Remember now the BT part isn't why he has to wait. If that is all it was goping to be he had a chance of maybe getting the powerbook he wanted at teh store since BT is now standard. The faster HD is what is cousing him to wait now.

I think there was some confusion a few posts ago.

BT = Bluetooth
BTO = Built to order

The original poster is not concerned with Bluetooth, but rather the upgraded vram and faster drive.
