I guess they just want to get over 1GHz across the line but the iBook 800 is pretty capable... it'd be nice to have a sub grand iBook again.

we all agree. But someone at Apple who likes his free jet for his birthday and hundreds of millions of dollars of stock options a year enjoys milking product for every dime rather than worrying about market share.

I think the ship has saled on Apple ever having any significant market share ever again. I think Apple realizes that better than most.

instead... it is a niche company that makes incredible things at very high prices. The Porche of the Computer World compared to Dell being the Ford.

But Porche still makes a superior car.

So...enjoy your Porche while the unwashed masses accept their meager place in life in the windows world.

But.....Ford makes more cars in a day than Porche sells in a year.

I think you're overreacting a little bit there, NYCFarmboy. The important thing here is to get the entire Apple line above 1 GHz. This is still an important psychological milestone in the eyes of consumers. Do you see any other manufacturer selling laptops at less than 1 GHz?

I see laptops at 2ghz for considerably less than the ibook.

No they don't have AGP 4x graphics nor a pretty case but still...

Apple has a shrinking market share. Big deal. You do realize if apple keeps selling the same amount of machines, or even grows it 10% a year, it'll be a long time, if ever, before that market share number rises?

The other problem is IDG (I think it is) counts licenses sold, not actual machines in use. Don't be surprised if apple gains a negative marketshare number one of these days
