Also wondering if it will read them even if it won't write them.

Hardly anyone's got the new ones yet, maybe a few lucky folks will get theirs later today though.

If someone with a new 4x Superdrive Powerbook wants to try to write a DVD+RW with Toast (or even read one) I'm sure quite a few of us would be interested in the outcome.

I have 4x DVD+R at home that I use with my DVR-106 in my G4 tower.. I'll try some on a 15" 1.5 SD tonight and see. I have no DVD+RW to test, however.

Can anyone check out System Profiler and find out the model number for the drive? I'm wondering if these models match the ones that was posted in the thread above.

So I opened Toast to the "Disk Info" window, and drop in a TDK 4x DVD+R disc. After spinning for a while, it showed up as a DVD+R disc, waiting to be burned. Curiouser, I decided not to burn with Toast.

I have my iLife '04 DVD imaged on my HD for quick installs, so I decided to try burning a copy of iLife '04 to DVD+R using Disk Utility. It's writing the track right now, and hasn't given me a single complaint. I'll update you all when it is done.

As of right now, though, it looks like the UJ-825 in the new PowerBooks (or at least in my 15") WILL in fact burn to DVD+R. I might run down to CompUSA and pick up some DVD+RW and DVD-RAM to give those a shot tomorrow. I'm quite happy (and surprised), though, even with just DVD+R.

I successfully burned my iLife '04 DVD image to a DVD+R disc in a 15" PowerBook's UJ-825 drive. Very cool.

I'll pick up some DVD+RW and DVD-RAM discs tomorrow and give it a shot. Huzzah!

I was worried that Apple may have taken a step back when they gave us these 4x super drives, but it's good to know they didn't. Darn, now I wished I would've brought some +R's from home this past weekend. I can't wait til I get mine this weekend.
Thanks for doing the test for us.
