Do the new quad-speed SuperDrives also support DVD-RAM? If not, is one better off buying and external drive that does support it, or is it not really that big of a deal? Seems like that would cost at least $100 more than ordering the internal SuperDrive.

My main concern is having a nice, capacious means of backing up my files — is DVD+RW or DVD-RW adequate for this purpose?

In short, the drive likely supports DVD-RAM, but Apple may remove that functionality.

BTW, DVD-RAM actually holds slightly less info than a DVD-R. The benefit of DVD-RAM is that it can be used like a hard drive. Check my sig.
