Hi all,

I have an iBook G3 900 with 10.3.3 running on it. Lately I have been having this problem, where from time to time the monitor would lose its colorsync profile and use the default one instead. (Although my own profile is still selected in the system preferences).

Switching the profile and then switch back fixes it, but is annoying because it just happens so often! Mostly when the iBook wakes up from sleep or I have just run a slideshow in iPhoto, but there is no clear pattern.

Is this problem common? Are there any preferences I could delete to fix this?

PS: I apologize if this problem has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything.

I've had this problem, but not in a while, so I don't remember what I did to solve it. I would go to the /Library/Caches folder and drag the com.apple.colorsync.profiles.501 file to the trash, then restart. (Assuming you're the admin of the computer, but the number could be different.)

Apart from that, I don't really know, except that you could try using a cache cleaner, or testing whether the problem persists when you log in as another user.

I have only had this one happen once directly on my iBook, but I have to say it shouldn't have to! I have found that it also happens after disconnecting an external screen, but that is another story.

Unreliable preferences seem to be just a fact of life with OS X unfortunately. Recently I have also had a relapse of the Jaguar one where the font smoothing preferences revert to "best for CRT," which is truly "bad" for LCD in my opinion!

And then of course there are the Finder view preferences and just the laziness of some applications that don't save window sizes / positions - at the moment Finder and Garageband are my main ones on that list.

As for solutions to this one specifically, I just switched it back and it hasn't happened again, but if it does I will try deleting cache files as suggested - cheers!

I have this problem 100% of the time when I connect or disconnect an external display. It's very annoying. I don't know of any solution.

thanx for your help, alien. deleting the profiles cache file seems to have fixed the problem. at least is hasn't appeared again for a few hours now, which is a longer time than ever before. thanks.
