under OS X - no.

RAM allocation is dynamic, ensuring that every program gets what it needs.

Put another way: If InDesign is laggy, allocating more RAM wouldn't help.

Unless you're using OS 9 (Can you get Indesign for OS 9?)
Then do it using get info from the file menu in finder.

Not the best forum for this post; try Software or OS X/9.

In any case, under OS X the user has no control over the memory allocation (or if it does, I don't know about it). If InDesign is laggy, it's for another reason.

BTW, in general, when asking for help, more information is better than less. Have you been using the program for some time, and the problems only appeared recently? What computer are you running it on and what are its specs? What other programs are you running concurrently? Have you done any system maintenance recently, or are you nearly out of hard disk space, or have you had electrical disturbances... etc. There are many possibilities, all of which have their own solutions.
Actual conversation between UCLA and Stanford during a login on early Internet - U: I'm going to type an L! Did you get an L? S: I got one-one-four. L! U:Did you get the O? S: One-one-seven. U: <types G> S: The computer just crashed.

Check InDesign's preferences if you can. I don't use InDesign so I wouldn't know - I use QuarkXPress. I know in Photoshop you can change the memory usage.

See…
