I just got a 12in Powerbook, and I've been hooking it up to a 17in CRT on my desk. I'm not at my desk very often, but when I am I have spanning set so that the 17in CRT is the main monitor. Meaning it has the dock and the menu bar. Everything works fine, but the problem is that when I plug in the 17in CRT it always comes up at 800 x 600 resolution, even though I always set it as 1024 x 768. I don't know why its not staying at 1024 x 768, but if someone could tell me how to get it to automatically go to that resolution it would save me having to reset it every day.

My roomie has an older model 12in Powerbook, and he does not have this issue. Though he does have a different monitor. Sigh....

Try turning off mirroring.

Hmm, if you're spanning, then you probably already have mirroring off.

Deactivate all lower resolution modes to force your monitor to stay at 1024 x 768.

Call me silly, but how does one deactivate the lower resolutions? Is there an option I'm missing?

There used to be an option in Displays to limit which resolutions a monitor could use.

No, that doesn't work either. It appears that after a while in sleep or whenever I turn it off, the resolution goes back to 800 x 600, no matter what. Very odd. Mmm.... oh well, I guess its something I can put up with.
