i'm a mac newbie, and i'm looking into getting an ibook around june and i might be doing some travelling in asia over the summer. i'm pretty sure i'll need the world travel adapter kit that apple offers, but the kit says that it plugs into the portable adapter (the square white one, like those for the ipod). does the square adapter come standard with the ibook? (or will i have to shell out $70 for one?)

and since we're on the subject of cables, the ibook includes the VGA adapter, but doesnt include the Svideo adapter. if i get the svideo/composite adapter, does it include the svideo/composite cables?

and one more question: is there anyway to output sound to rca jacks? (i noticed the Apple AV Cable, but they require an A/V jack which i dont think is present on the new ibooks)

thanks

Yup there is something you can use a cable that has a little 3.5" connector on the end that hooks into your computer and the other end has a left and ride rca connector. I have one of these cables using it on my pc right now. Should work with mac also. I think I eather got my cable from radio shack or best buy. Cant remember but both good places to look.

Yeah, headphone jack to RCA cables are cheap and plentiful.

Don't pay the Apple tax on plug convertors. There's no electronics in them - they just change the shape of the prongs. The way the Apple ones just slip into the power brick is cool, though. And yes, the iBooks come with the square white brick, one quite similar to the iPod's. The adpators fit both.

The svideo adapter doesn't come with cables. An alternative is the special cable Monster makes for the iBooks and Powerbooks, but that is still more expensive than the Apple adapter together with third-party cables. I have a neat svideo+3.5mm audio to svideo+RCA cable I got in Japan.
