Howdy,

Wanting to pull apart/dissasemble my Albook for cleaning, particulary the motherboard & keyboard. (See my previous post @ http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=209985 ).

I've heard that they can be tricky to take apart - I took my older Tibook apart plenty of times, but apparently the Albook's have 5 million more screws, hidden latches, and getting them back together in one piece can be tricky (i.e. parts don't fit together properly again).

In particular, I need to clean underneath the keys - how the heck do you remove individual keys without breaking anything?

Any tips or tricks? Any service manuals or information one can get their hands on? If somebody has done this, can they give instructions or tips?

Cheers!

Hi.

I've got the service manual. Email me.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I do not suggest doing it, mostly because the latches in the SuperDrive area can be very tricky to unlock, causing a few scratches on my machine. Also, if you do decide to do it, make sure you do not accidentally stick one of the small screws into the DVI port (yes, I have).

And make sure you aren't on pain killers immediately following the removal of all four wisdom teeth.

* luckily, Apple replaced the case on mine after hassling them for a while. I bought AppleCare now and would not dare try to open it again.

I haven't /got/ Applecare on my Powerbook. The thing is, it's primarily because the arrangements for me purchasing it were a little wierd (nothing illegal, just more disorganised if anything).

Can I purchase Applecare now; I purchased it 4 months ago.

Has anybody got any tips for removing keys off the keyboard? Do I just pull em off or is there a trick to it?

Yup, you can purchase AppleCare for up to a year after the original date of purchase.

No advice for the keys though, sorry...
