I've had my 12" since September, and the latch quickly started not working properly. Soon after I got it, it failed to retract after opening the lid. THis wasn't a big deal, I just got in the habit of closing it with my finger when I turned it on.

Now the latch isn't coming back out again, and it won't latch unless I take the tip of a mechanical pencil and coax is back out again. This is a much bigger inconvenience.

Applecare is still in affect, will they fix it for me?

Yes they will.

However, I had the same problem with my revision A PowerBook 12-inch. It was when it was new though. Mine kept not wanting to come back out, as opposed to staying out.

Once I got the latch out again, I used scotch tape to keep it in the extruding position. After 2-3 days of doing this, even at night (as having the PowerBook closed does not help put the right pressure on the latch) I saw noticeable improvement. After that I stopped using the tape, and she has had no problems since. (I sold her to my girlfriend who still uses her today).

My revision C 12-inch has shown no signs of latch problems yet.

i have the same problem. if you close the lid right, the latch comes out... but it takes some practice. now it's not a big deal, although i do need to take it in and see if they can fix it.

it's the ONLY thing wrong with this pBook.

My latch was working fine after 'closing it in JUST the right manner' each time. Except two days ago, the latch stayed behind on the lower part of the machine!! Now it REALLY needs to get fixed! I guess I'll get that fixed along with these darn feet that keep falling off too.
