I have a TiBook bought just over a year ago and have been umming and ahing ever since over whether or not to get applecare. And then I missed the cut off point for the warranty.

Can I buy it now, is it worth it, and what should I do?

THanks!

Well, you actually answered it yourself, you missed the cutoff period, so its too late. You need to buy it within the 1 year warranty period.

On a side note it seems the consensus for PBs is its worth it.

Why don't you ring apple and see what they have to say.

It is not unheard of, especially if just over the date.

I missed the cut off date by just two days, but was out of luck. I called Apple, spoke with one of the supervisors in Apple Care, but I was told that not only have they never extended the service past the one year cut off date, but that they were unable to do so. Their computers would not allow them to enter the information once the purchase date was entered.

That makes sense however, what would stop someone to get apple care on a machine that doesn't work and is out of warranty. I'm not saying that's the case for you but some dishonest people could try that.

BS - they did it for my wife's iBook. We missed the cutoff day by 1 day. It was Thanksgiving day and I ordered AC on Black Friday (Day After). Apple Care can and did extend us coverage on her 'book. Maybe it was because we bought it off the Apple store and had it in hand (didn't want to RMA it), or because the cutoff day was a holiday. Not sure, but I'm thankful they did (the wife was already screaming at me for waiting) - made my wife and I happy campers!

In a recent thread of mine, somebody mentioned that if you bring your computer to an Apple store, and they check it out, it could still be elligible for Applecare as long as it passes inspection. Now whether this is true or not is another story.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

thanks guys. As we have no real apple stores in the uk bit of a bugger. - don't trust the resellers frankly! But have also found that the cut-off period was in fact the 14th, not the 24th as I thought.

Oh well, at least its insured.

Load of crap! I missed my cutoff by a week! First I thought that it was one year from the day your receive the computer (but its not, It is one year from the day THEY ship your computer), so I went online and purchased it from the apple store. It took a week to process because I applied for a apple loan. Then they shipped it to me, and when I tried to register it said I was too late. Well I called and they told me I probably could not get it, but somehow the Applecare customer service rep worked it out so I could get it. So here I am, three weeks after my anniversary, and I just recieved applecare confirmation in the mail. If you bug them enough, they will give it to you...

It may be in your opinion, but the supervisor I spoke with in Apple Care (I did ask to speak to the supervisor or manager of the first representative that answered the phone) said that they will not, have not, nor were they able to extend the deadline past the one year anniversary of your purchase date. I was two days past the deadline and simply out of luck, period.

Speak nicely, and beg!!!

I have done it on a pismo that was over 1 year out of Applecare! Local Apple Dealer charged $65 inspection fee and billed me for 2 years of Applecare.

Search around! Some Apple Dealers are looking for business and Applecare is a big markup item!

It's still a load of crap that they could not extend it for you, but they did for me.
