I'm having a very strange problem on my iBook. Sometimes (I haven't been able to determine what brings it on, yet...) the screen goes black - that is, the backlight goes out. It only comes back on when I reset the PRAM, but that always fixes it. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Oh, forgot to say: it's an iBook G3 700/256/16MB VRAM.

OK, in further testing I've decided that my zapping the PRAM was just coincidentally fixing the problem. It seems to be totally arbitrary when it goes on and off and when it is fixed, although often (but not always) putting it to sleep and waking it back up brings the backlight back on. any ideas?

Now it sounds like the hinge problem. The bunch of cables going through the hinge break when you open & close the machine X times... It just sucks.

This fixed an iBook 500 MHz for 18 months. Now the problem is back.

I am hoping it's the logic board, because it's covered under the logic board repair program, apparently. I'm going to take it to an Apple store this weekend...
