I was fortunate to be taking a one=day seminar at UCLA extension yesterday, and saw the UCLA Daily Bruin, advertising an introductory special on the new 1.5mhz 15" PB...$1999!! Since I was a UCLA student for the day, I rushed over to the Student Store and got one, since I qualified as a student YESTERDAY. They told me that they had 80 in stock. Plus, AppleCare bought at the time of purchase of the computer is only $99 for two additional years.

Basically, I saved about $750. Was glad to be a Bruin for a day.

No, for whatever reason, some schools are priced higher. At San Francisco State University, the prices are $200 above what you might find at the UC schools or Stanford.

Well, if you guys can't get onto that deal, another possibility is Apple's Student Developer membership. If you're a student taking development classes, you can join for $99 and the powerbook drops to a price of $1999. That's how I got mine.

You might have a better price coming. SFSU price was $2399 until a couple of days ago.

Hey 0n1.. I was wondering for a bit how you got that price until I noticed you didn't get the super drive option. So that would put it at $1999 and about 15 for shipping. Any reason why you didn't want the superdrive besides cost I guess?

You don't have to be taking any development classes for this discount. My friend who was in massage school got this discount. You only have to be in school, and this discount ROCKS! %20 off all products. It's how I got my powerbook and I wasn't taking any developer classes. The down side it's a once in a lifetime deal, meaning you can only do this one time, and then no more.

Hey AgBlue...

I was thinking about getting it, but I can't justify spending $160 for a 4x DVD burner when there's an external 8x burner for $200 out there. IF I really feel that I'm going to use it, I'll go out and buy the 8x. Granted, it's convenient to have an internal DVD burner, but it would probably be a waste for me.

Yup's UCLA is pretty good at pricing Powerbooks, thats where I got my 12" Rev B for $1500 after tax's, Applecare, and a Marware Sportfolio II sleeve. Now if only somebody would get my 12" off of me for $1300, then I'd go for the discount again and upgrade, but my machine is keeping me happy for now.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)
