Hi,

I just bought a 1Ghz ibook and noticed that the fan will run continuously after being shut down. While in sleep mode and running it's quiet, however, the fan will stay on (fairly loud) until the computer is powered back on. Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks

how long is it on for in time? from a thermal standpoint it makes sense to have the fan come on for awhile after the system is turned of to lower the stress on components and insure the system life last longer.

I called the Apple store where I made the purchase and explained the problem. The fan should not run after shutdown, so they exchanged my ibook for a new one (the tech guy had no idea why the malfnuction occurred). I inquired if mine was the first to come back with the problem, and it was. In any case, the replacement works great (no problems w/the fan or anything else!).

hrm.. thats strange that it didnt work. I thought it might have been something were it comes on to beter cool of the system instead of leting heat build up. I have seen a few new pcs designed to do this purpusly for that reason expecialy since prescott is so darn hot
