Does Apple ever carry non-stock PowerBooks (faster hard drive, graphics memory, etc.) in their Apple Stores? I would much rather just drive to my local Apple Stores (Seattle/Bellevue) to buy my new PB than do a BTO.

BTO is only available online. Shipping if free, so it won't cost you any extra, other than a few days wait. After you get it, the store will happily provide any support you need.

It is incorrect that you can only get BTO machines online. The stores do not keep BTO machines in stock, but you can buy them from the Apple stores, you just have to go in, order it, and wait for them to receive it. You can also call Apple over the phone and order a BTO machine.

This is true but is really no different than ordering online. Also many smaller resellers will do the same thing. I think the important point being asked is that you can't go to a dealer and get a maxed out machine off the floor. It has to be special ordered whether online or by the dealer.
