System Preferences, Energy Saver, Click button at bottom right "Show Details". Now click on second popup menu button from top, it will show "Power Adaptor" or "Battery".

i tired that. i go to power adapter and set it to highest performance, but when i go back to battery its automaatically set to highest performace again.

it seems like they both have to have the same settings which is not what i want. any ideas?

If you are saying that it start off at highest in battery that's OK. If you are saying you set it and that it doesn't "stick" than that's not right. Does it show your power settings as "Custom" or one of the built-in defaults?

it doesnt stick. when i change one (battery or adapter) the other one changes to the same thing. i tired clicking the lock and that didnt work either. should it just stick?

one more question for you. how do you like those 2 gigs of ram? do you have slowdowns in garageband? im on a 1.5ghz 15" 512 ram 5200hdd, 128 vram.

i use garageband but everynow and then i get "not enough resources" messages.

Yes, the settings should really stick. I don't know why they aren't for you. You are an admin user right? 2GB is nice but to be honest unless you are running really big stuff or lots of things it won't feel too much different than 1GB or 1.5GB.

I can't really comment on Garageband. I've only run it once to try it out, I'm not musically talented at all.

Anybody find the culprit for this problem. It used to work fine for me, but after some font troubles I had to erase and install my system and now it doesn't seem to work. Any thoughts?

i have this same problem on a rev. c 12" and it is very very annoying. it just started bothering me recently, or i just noticed it recently, so i'm not sure if it's due to some recent change i've made or whether it's always been there. the only things i've tried are repairing permissions and restarting - neither worked.

As a last resort I ended up just shutting off and resetting the PMU? All I know is that I shut off my PB, pressed cmd+opt+shift+power button simultaneously, waited 5 seconds and things aren't back to normal, but now when I change from Batt to PowAd I see a change in the settings for both windows but it still says longest battery for the settings. Give it a shot and see what happens, it helped (a little) for me.

I had this problem on my 15" 1.5 ghz when I purchased it in May. The workaround I was using was to keep a copy of "good" com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file in an easily accessible place (like Desktop), and overwrite (i.e., copy & paste) the "bad" .plist file located in ~/library/preferences with this good copy as soon as I notice my setting was lost. (I believe log out & log in was required after this.) This was much faster than going into System Preferences and clicking many buttons. The method also worked for other System Preferences settings that didn't stick.

In my case, the problem somehow cured itself. I have no clue as to what actually fixed the problem.

This is really starting to get annoying. Now when I plug or unplug it stays at the same setting but only the sleep times for the screen and HD change, but not the check boxes and the Optimize Energy Settings. Anyone got a work around, ie. maybe replacing the plist with one that works for good?

After resetting the PMU I now change my setting to Custom and fix my settings under that and it works like a charm. Just remember the settings you want (presentation, dvd playback, highest performance, etc....) and punch it in. It works for me.
