Hey all,

I have a questions. I've got a Tibook 550 and after a thunderstorm last week my cable modem won't recognize that there is a computer hooked to it when the TiBook is plugged through ethernet.

The modem still works with another laptop I have, but I'm confused as to what might have happened. I had to have the motherboard replaced several months ago, and I don't care to have to have that done again.
is there anyway I can test to see if it's a hardware problem or not?

thanks,
chuckmcd

Sorry to hear about that. Sounds like the storm may have cause a hardware failure in your PB. Did you have it plugged into a reputable surge protector? If so, then the surge protector company will pay for the damage done.

Try performing an Ethernet loopback test of your TiBook's Ethernet port.

I'd love to, how do I do that?

Run Network Utility and ping 127.0.0.1. What response do you get?
