I had a tibook.. out of the box the 12" wasn't so pretty.. but have you guys used the calibration, in advanced mode? It takes a second, but man what an improvement.

I havent had any problems with my 12" 1ghz display. Now with that said I did have some trouble with my previous 12" 867 and the display not too mention tons of other issues.

When you say calibration, what exactly do you mean? TIA
Without your space helmet, Dave, you're going to find that rather difficult.

Yeah, but hOOligan mentions an advanced mode which I'm not familiar with. I used SuperCal and it wasn't too shabby but I like my display callibrated under the system preference.

use advanced mode to fine tune it ... painstakingly slowly .. but u get gorgeous results .. careful not to strain ur eyes too much. i actually crossed my eyes while doing it. i crossed til i saw double vision, and while see'ing doublevision and staying in cross eye'd mode, i focused on one of the two "visions" of the apple logo and moved the slider around until it blended best ...
harder to notice without doing it that way but i'm sure you'll find your own method of doing it

take the time .. it's worth it

good luck

For some strange reason, OS 10.3.3 on my Powerbook decalibrates my display settings periodically. I believe it happens occasionally when waking up from sleep, forcing me to go to settings and select my calibration profile again. Has anyone had this recurring problem?

Hehehe, at a shop today (while mothers day shopping) I calibrated about 6 macs .. the stores never do them , thought I would just help out a little ! Think I sold a 17" powerbook to a guy too ! The 12" ibook screen came up well but still isnt anywhere near a 15" powerbook screen.. I was a little disappointed in the 14" ibook that didnt seem to sparkle much more at all..

In recalibrating my Ti-400, I noticed that there's essentially no difference between the sRGB setting and using SuperCal or Apple's calibration.

Anybody else noticed this?

I get this as well... often when waking from sleep as you say. With both my 12" and my external display. I don't mind it so much on the external display as the pre-canned color profile for it is pretty good (odd that OS X has a pre-canned color profile for an Envision brand external LCD but not for the 12" powerbook LCD).

I noticed some profiles won't turn on. For example on my 12" powerbook the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile does not work, so switching from my calibrated to that makes it seem the same (or switching from the default Color LCD to it looks the same as the Color LCD). However the sRGB Profile does work but has too much blue in it. Sort of looks a little like I'm looking through a polar lens. None of the other profiles work either, except the Generic RGB Profile, which is pretty much the same as the sRGB Profile and has too much blue.

if you switch to a setting and it doesn't seem to change, and then switch to one that does change and back to the one that didn't change and again it doe snot change, it probably does not work with your monitor (if you caught that )
