i sent in my 1.25 gHz albook due to white spots (second time i've sent it in), and they replaced my superdrive to do a cd getting stuck (wtf? never happened to me). anyway, i noticed that it is a 816, as opposed to the 815x that was in it before. does anyone know if the machine is faster? i haven't had a chance to fool around with it, as the apple repair techs scratched up the case and i have it ready to be sent back out on monday. thanks.

The UJ816 supports 2x DVD-R and 1x DVD-RW as-is (no firmware hack required like with the 815). I think it is only 16x CD-R, but am not entirely sure on that one.

My 1.25 Powerbook here, bought 1 day after the announcement, has a UJ-816, and always has. The UJ-816 officially does 2x burning, where as the 815 officially did 1x. If indeed your Powerbook did ship with an 815, something got mixed up during assembly, and you had the wrong drive all along. 2x was an official spec of the Powerbooks introduced late August, 2003.
