I am thinking of buying a powerbook from apple either refurb a new one. Has all the screen issues been resolved?
And is the only different between the Rev A 15" and Reb B 15" CPU speed and GPU type?

Not to mention faster Superdrives, Faster HD option on the combo, and airport extreme already installed on the Rev C's. It is very safe to buy PB now, but you never know what Apple has in store, generally speaking though if you need a notebook and you want an Apple, no better time then now.

I believe the 15" RevB's comes with 50 watt/hour battery as opposed to the RevA's 46 watt/hour battery...

It is never safe to order a powerbook! They carry plague. They may eat the face off your child. People are often allergic to them. They may bully your other computers. They abuse drugs and hang out on street corners.
That said, they're great machines.

They are only safe if you wear protection.

On a semi serious note I have had my Rev A Powerbook 17" for a year now without a single Problem. And the screen is beautiful.

I've been monitoring macfixit this week looking for issues cropping up with the new models and so far nothing. My finger is hovering over the "confirm order" button.
I'm replacing a keylime ibook tho, so waiting for the mythic rev B G5 powerbook seems like WAY too far off to me.
But I AM getting Applecare.

Just bought and got a 15" 1.5 128 5400 combo.
absolutely a perfect machine in every way!
totally flawless.
the one problem i'm having is adjusting to a 15" screen + a 17" monitor after having used a 12" ibook for 2.5 years

I had a dead pixel issue with the first new pwerbook 12 inch built to order 80 gig and had to return it. Apple allowed the swap for a new one and indeed this 12 inch is superb. A wonder of the world, really fantastic. All systems are go except i havent tried the superdrives recording capabilities yet/
take care

oh my god ...are you telling me there are more faceless children out there? I thought it was a freak accident .. let's slap a class action on the mother .. lol
as for screens ... no white spots yet (Rev C 12inch), BUT ...at times i do notice the brightness isnt uniform (that's the trade off for size and battery life?) .. my old fujitsu ultra portable's screen was crap compared to this so i am not complaining .. although a desktop kinda monitor would be great.
you guys gotta realize the reason why some pc laptops have very nice screens (they use actual desktop lcd panels built into the notebook) is because of the power draining monitor.

i had my rev c powerbook swapped with new on one pixel .. lol .. i returned it within 20 hours from purchase, was a green stuck pixel .. woulda prefered a dead one. i tried massaging it away... eraser, radtech sleeve, foam screen protector .. finger, knuckle .. (sigh) .. didnt want to wait to see if it fixes within a timeframe of a week or several weeks, as i figured the earlier i return it the more likely it would get replaced.
the originally wanted to swap for a refreshed but i put the boot down lol..
i mean ... if i wanted to pay new prices for a refreshed laptop ... i'd buy refurb'ed machine. used either way, and both carry the same warrantee .. ya know?
they said to swap for a new would cost me 150.00 or so (10% restock fee) ...
i said .. so the only options for someone who just bought a laptop less than 20 hours ago, is to either have overpaid for a used laptop, or to have to tack on 10% to the laptop price for a perfect model... wtf ... those options suck.
not like i was able to see, and testdrive before i buy, how am i responsible for the pixel? ... after a while, they pulled out a fresh one ... my new YaO-book =)
persistence .. the anti_screwjob

funny thing was, i woulda been happy with the laptop .. pixel or not .. the genius was very helpful .. but seriously .. that sales manager who i was refered to was a total ass early on. said his old laptop had 3-4 dead pixels clustered in a corner and it's totally common and acceptable ... mac's are great ..i just got one of the few that are bound to have a minor issue ... mac sales guys are great .. just got one of the few that are bound to have a minor issue ... ... lol ...
