So I'm spending fall term in Japan, and I'll be taking my trusty 1.33 12in Powerbook. Apple has a 'World traveler's kit' that you can buy from them, which only replaces the little end piece on a Powerbook power supply. The Power supply also says on it,

Input: AC 1.2A 100-240V
50/60 Hz Output: 24 V

So if I remember correctly, the Japanese outlet should accommodate the same shape plug as the Amercian power outlet.

Anyhow, if anyone has experience, it would help out a lot. (This also goes for my iPod, which I guess, could just be plugged into my Powerbook)

Yes. Been there, done that, power supply works fine in Japan. As I recall Japan also uses U.S. style plugs, so you won't need to buy the international travel kit (I have that too). You'll need it in Europe but not Japan.

nearly all power outlets in japan have two slots only. if you have any three-pronged electrical goods, you will need an adaptor or a power bar.

Yes that's right. But the PowerBook AC adaptor has only two prongs so this isn't a problem.

The cord included with the PowerBook is 3-prong. The direct plug (which Apple calls a "duck head") is 2-prong.

Thanks a bunch. This helps me out, and saves me the trouble of buying the international kit. Ahhh... the fun of being able to post from Japan.

Maybe if I'm lucky I can hit the Apple store in Tokyo. Those silly Japanese do love their Macs. Heres the coolest video ever. One damn long line at the opening of the Tokyo Apple store.
