My 12" Al came with a DVI-miniDVI adaptor as well as a VGA to something adaptor. However, the connector that is supposed to connect to the Powerbook doesn't fit anywhere. Is there another adaptor that is supposed to connect this to the miniDVI? Thanks.

The 12" Powerbook comes with a mini-DVI to DVI-I adaptor and a mini-DVI to VGA adaptor. I'm not sure I understand your question. If you mean that you also have an Apple display with an ADC connector, you need the Apple DVI to ADC adaptor:

I guess I mine came with the wrong VGA adapter because it is not compatible with the mini-DVI port on the 12". It almost looks like a USB connector but obviously a little different. I'll call apple and see if they will give me the correct one.

Wow, sounds like you somehow got the old mini-VGA to VGA adaptor found on the iBooks and the first 12" Aluminum (867 MHz) Powerbook. You should definitely be able to get the correct one.

It seems the mini-DVI connector on my powerbook isn't compatible with the DVI connector on my Sony LCD.
The DVI connector on my LCD has four extra pins around the long flat pin, and the mini-DVI doesn't have holes for that.
Does anyone else have the same problem? If I punch four holes myself in the mini-DVI connector would that work?

The extra pins indicate that that's a DVI-I connector. The extra pins are for analog video (VGA). Your LCD should have come with a DVI-I to DVI-D adaptor like this one I just found:
http://www.l-com.com/jump.jsp?lGen=d...ProductID=6379
Contact Sony if you didn't get such an adaptor.
And yes, there was never a VGA to DVI adaptor because that's simply not possible without some sort of video analog to digital conversion. I think Dr. Bott makes something like that for $300.

Thanks ... looks like I might have to buy one of those adapters. I must have left the Sony one behind when discarded the box so I could sneak my LCD back with me on the plane from Hong Kong!
