Hi everybody,
My '02 ti book 800 has been overheating lately. Super hot! When I use the book and try to restart, it beeps four times and the sleep indicator flashes four short and one long continuesly. If I wait a while and try again, it'll start up. Is it time to toss it?

Could it be bad RAM causing this problem? Have you run Hardware Test CD yet?

Apple says that 4 beeps at startup is due to no-good Boot ROM

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58442

have you done fsck -y lately? There are some things that can't be fixed this way, so if fsck -y can't fix it (it says it's repaired, but subsequent runs reveal the same fault) then you can try DiskWarrior or perhaps TechTool Pro.

Have you got everything backed up? Personally, I'd do an archive and install right away to see if that solves it.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advices. I'll try the Hardware Test CD and what "amazing" said. The four beeps doesn't always happen, though. I know 'books get hot but mine is blazingly hot...
