Hiya. I switched over to the iBook in August and still have a few questions. I'm used to a Windows based system in which I would delete cookies/temp internet files/defrag/etc ..what is there to do on a mac? Someone told me the computer does it itself basically, but I feel like I just have a lot of junk sitting around and don't know how to uninstall downloaded programs, delete cookies, "defrag" ..etc. Can someone help me with that, maybe?

Also, it's starting to look gross. I guess from dust just getting into the keyboard, in little crevices, etc. Got any good tips to clean up my computer?

Thanks!

Well for the browser related things you can go in and delete cookies in the Safari preferences under the Security tab and 'Show cookies'. You can selectively delete or just get rid of them all. As far as temp files just go to the Safari menu and select the empty cache option.

You don't need to defrag and just toss any programs you don't want in the trash.

Keeping it clean - get some iKlear to clean the screen and inside parts and I do recommend getting an iSkin keyboard protector after you do a good canned air cleaning of your keyboard - I really like mine and it is keeping all the dirt and pet hair out of the keyboard as well as protecting the screen from keyboard marks. For the outside I really recommend going to an autoshop and picking up a plexiglass polish and scratch remover. Will keep the fine scratches away and puts a light polish on the polycarbonate so that is getting scratched rather than the iBook itself. If you do get a scratch this won't help get one of the Novus plastic scratch remover and polish kits (cheapest I've found is at cyberguys.com).

And to prevent exterior scratches I am using a radtech.us iSleevz - light easy to put on and remove and keeps all those inadvertent opportunity scratches to a minimum.

People complain that iBooks scratch to easily but I really don't think the PC laptops are harder plastic - they just go with a matte finish so you don't notice the scratches.
