I'm thinking about upgrading my revA PB17" with a 80GB 5400rpm or 7200rpm drive (because I'm planning on doing a lot of multitrack audio work), but all the 80GB drives I've seen are 5400rpm. Are there any 7200rpm 80GB drives out there that can work in a PB17"?

Where are some vendors that sell them?

If there aren't any 7200rpm 80GB drives, would a 5400rpm 80GB drive still give me a 'feelable' performance improvement?

There aren't any 80GB 7200RPM drives shipping yet, although they're not far away, I think.

In any case, will a 5400RPM drive be faster? Definitely a little bit faster.

By the way, ALL current 2.5" hard drives will fit ANY Apple laptop made since 1997 or so.

All 9.5mm drives, you mean. There are still some 12.5mm and 15mm drives out there, and they won't fit in iBooks or AlBooks. TiBooks will take 12.5mm drives as will G3 PowerBooks. Best bet is to verify that the drive you're buying is 9.5mm tall. Most are, but check anyways just for safety.
