I have the iBook G4 800 with 640MB RAM. I am considering the 1GB RAM stick. Can anyone who already has the 1GB RAM share their comments?
I remember reading that the big RAM stick caused some malfunctions on computers on an Airport network, but I can't remember exactly what the issue was.
Thanks.

If I recall correctly, the airport issues were only with powerbooks...

The only real issue is the high frickin' price for a 1-gig stick.

I was also considering this. And to make sure everything is clear...you guys have the 1 gig sticks installed on your machines? I'm seriously interested but I'm really looking for an actual user that has done it and lives with it from day to day. The slightest bit of hearsay on this matter disinterests me, but I really would like to hear more. Maybe somebody knows of a place this was discussed more thourough?

Well said, that is the kind of feedback I was looking for with this post.
If someone has it installed, please share your experience...

Randman: Based on your experience, do you think it's worth the extra money to install a 1GB chip (ca. $400) over a 512MB chip (ca. $100)? I will be upgrading to a 12" iBook G4/1Ghz or a 12-inch PowerBook very soon and am trying to decide whether to spend an extra $300 for the bigger RAM chip.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

If you can afford it, get as much ram as you can afford to.
What will you be doing with it? If you're just surfing and sending e-mail, you'd likely be ok with 512. Any video editing or design work and I'd recommend the extra ram.
I got my ram at about $300 (guy was selling it and his PowerBook as his company was getting him a PC), so that made it an easier purchase.
It's snappier with the extra ram but I use it quite a bit for Adobe CS stuff and even Quark.
In very many ways, ram is as important, or even more important, than mhz.

Thanks, Randman. Mostly web browsing, e-mail and writing in Word. Occasional photo editing in GraphicConverter and web design in BBEdit and the Macromedia suite. I've been perfectly fine with the 576MB of RAM in my iBook G3/500 for the last three years. So I should be just fine with the 512MB stick and will probably save my money for now.

I just like the sound of 1.25GB RAM better than 640MB (in the iBook) or 768MB in the 12-inch PowerBook.
