So I've had my 17" 1ghz powerbook for a little over a year. The first day I had it I hooked it up to my DVI monitor and the whole screen had a red tint to it, like there was a color channel missing.

So I sent it into Apple, and of course it comes back with 'unable to duplicate'. I didn't have any other DVI monitors lying around so I was unable to test it on a different monitor. I tried 2 different DVI cables and the same thing. VGA looks fine.

Now, 2 months after my warranty expires, I'm finally able to test it on a completely different DVI monitor, and to no surprise, same red tint.

So, I think I should be able to have it repaired for free since they couldn't do it in the first place. What do you think? And have you heard of Apple doing this for anyone else?

I think that maybe you have a valid case. As whether Apple will recognize it as still under warranty, i don't think they will. i think your best bet is to bring the proof that they were unable to duplicate it, to an apple store, and see what they can do.

have you tried wiggling it? i did this with my old ibook to make it work, but that was VGA.

EDIT: i noticed you said a different DVI cable, how about a different mini-dvi to DVI plug if its a 12 inch. you didnt specify, so im just assuming all the options.
