My brand new 12in powerbook has been having problems with kernel panics and everything recently and I don't know what they are about exactly. Well now it won't even boot up. Can you guys help me out? It plays the start up sound and that is about it. Sometimes it gets to the DOS type thing (sorry Im from PC land) and I don't know what to do. If I type in mac-boot it says "ALLOC-MEM request too big". Thanks.

Do you have an SO-DIMM installed? Remove it and see if your machine works OK with the onboard memory. If you still have problems, take it to an Apple store for some help. If you don't have problems, that RAM was bad. If it was from Apple, they should replace it.

Try using 1 RAM chip if you can, instead of 2, or if you bought more memory, try reinstalling the original ones.
Try booting from the Mac OS X install CD ? It is supposed to work, and could allow you to fix some problems ...

12" Powerbook has only one DIMM slot plus 256 MB of onboard memory, so he can only remove the single DIMM, if he has one.

Reseat the AirPort Extreme card if you have one. Try one boot without the card in the slot, though. If it boots OK, put it back in. Make sure it is inserted ALL THE WAY in the slot, then try rebooting. If it's a good boot, it was just loose. If it KPs again, you might have a bad card.
