is it just me or is it that everytime I come backt o my laptop with the red pill screensaver on, the computer is always REALLY warm or have the fan on.. and as soon as I touch the touchpad and operate the ibook normally, the temperature drops again. I've been using a program called temperature monitor and I have seen that before the screen saver my computer's temp was below 100F but after leaving the screensaver on for a couple hours, it was at like 142F almost to the point of having that big fan come on! Now is this normal? Should I be using matrix screensaver or just stick with the defaults.. does this happen to you guys?

ok I just let the screensaver run for 15 minutes and my ibook fan turned on. I stopped the screensaver and I found that it was running at 155 degrees F.!!

I have my laptop on a normal hard oakwook desk

edit: I tested with a default flurry screensaver and the temperature goes down (like it should)

i'm sure it does heat it up, like any OpenGL based screensaver. taxing on the videocard and probably the CPU as well, for long continuous blocks of time. much more so than typical use, when often the cpu and vid card are virtually idle.

Any computer will heat up when the CPU (and other components) are working hard. Red Pill must just be a very taxing screen saver. I suggest you switch to something that uses less CPU power.

Just run Fluid instead. When the screensaver kicks in, the unknowing masses will think your display is completely cooked. Made my wife panic the first time.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Unfortunately, Fluid is probably even worse about hogging the CPU. For a lightweight screensaver you'll have to turn to the slideshow ones, Computer Name, or something useful like iCalSaver.

I can't stand it when RedPil pops up, I remember the first time it happened and I trashed it right there and then, I really liked it as a screensaver but not worth the pain it puts my PB through.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)
