Purchased an iBook 14" G4 1 Ghz on Friday afternoon from the UK Apple Store. Arrived this morning and I'm very impressed. Immaculate condition (looks brand new to me) and everything is here that should be, sealed and in perfect working order. It even has more than the 256Mb ram stated...

If anyone is considering a refurb purchase, I would say go for it.

Nick

Refurb items are new. They're usually items that don't pass their series of tests and never make it out the door in the first place. Not sure how you got the extra ram but I'm sure you won't call them up and ask them why it's there Anyways, all refurb deals will turn out very differently. I buy refurbs all the time and my first sour refurb was from apple, granted they replaced it within 4 days or so but I had to ring their phone all day to get it. Overall, refurbs are generally a good deal. Good to hear somebody got another excellent refurb!

They are not always new...

Basically with Apple, you pay your money and take your chance. Some are good, but there have been some bad experiences posted.

When you say not always new, what are you referencing? That they take used products and resell them? Or, under-warranty items and repair them for resale? IF this is the case, then I can agree with that but they'll always put a new shell on it. I can't see how they would expect to sell you a refurb with a scratched up case...especially Apple products.

In my expereice they have sold ex-display products, repaired DOA warranty items, and both of the above items with cosmetic defects.

I have seen quite a few Powerbook refurbs with scratched cases and things. They work perfectly, but have cosmetic issues.

They obviously can't get away with selling genuinely 'old' products this way, but they are sometimes not pristine.

my ibook933 refurb from the apple store was obviously a display model somewhere (small scratches, left over residue from a tag on the lid, etc)

a little upsetting, but i got over it.
