My hard disk has suddenty started to make a periodic clicking noise ( about every 0.5 to 0.75 seconds ) and everything has got very slow. I have the beachball all the time, even as I type this, and starting up or shutting down takes forever. I've repaired the permissions and used the fix disk options in the boot disk, but it's not worked; it tells me everything is fine when it patently is not.
It took about 5 minutes to get past the final "starting login window" type option on OS X boot just now; that's longer than the entire boot process used to take. It also does strange things with copying files and deleting them; it tells me that files are in use when they are not.
I've tried looking in activity monitor to see if any processes are using the drive, but they aren't.
I have a nasty feeling the drive is dying on me; I bought the PowerBook ( rev. B, CDRW ) towards the end of October - I'm asuming it's still under warranty, so what do I do? The Apple UK website doesn't list any email addresses.
Oh, hang on - the entire note of the disk has just changed. It's now making a constant dull buzz/whine. Oh, the humanity!
