Well yesterday during my lunch hour I decided to purchase the stock middle range ibook. I've been thinking about buying one since last year and it finally happened. I thought now with the drop in price and finally reaching the 1ghz mark plus the extra ram. Its a good time to buy!

Anyway, boy am I having fun with this. Friend came over with DV cam and we messed around with iMovie. My friend and I couldnt believe how easy it was. Plug it in and start editing. My friend more so was more impressed since he tried editing those clips on his PC but experienced problems with it

Question 1: What is the best setting (compression, codec etc) to make a quicktime movie that retains reasonable sound and quality on a 320x240 scale. Mostly have breakdancing, popping dance s the video content. We want people to be able to download and watch. Not streamed

Question 2: Does upgrading RAM help iMovie render quicker or is this task mainly done by the CPU

Question 3: I have an external LG Multi Format DVD burner USB2. How do I burn DATA on it. Mac recognises it and when I put a normal CD it appears on the desktop. When I put on a blank DVD-R disc nothing. I'm also planning to create VCD to send to my girlfriend overseas . Is Toast the only option to allow me to do this?

Question 4: I've set an event alarm in iCal. But didnt work. Do I have to leave the screen up since it didnt work when the ibook was sleeping.

Anyway thats it. Pretty good experience so far. Planning to purchase External HDD as 30GB left is a joke
Potential mac switcher but still researching

I'll try to answer some of your questions.

1. I'm not sure I don't do much with making Quicktime Movies.

2. It's mostly based on your CPU but more RAM will help a little bit.

3. Yes Toast is the only option you have.

3. Not sure, I don't use iCal.

Sorry I couldn't answer questions 1 and 4. I'm sure someone else here will.

Not true, Toast is just the best one but also the most expensive.

I don't think your computer can be in sleep mode when the alarm is supposed to go off, if you got an iPod, its better off using that with a pair of speakers instead.
