Some time ago i told you all about the problemsthat I had with my Powerbook 17inch.
When still living full time in the USA Apple told me that they were going to replace the computer because of the foreseen steep repair bill.
As I am now in New Zealand for the coming time Apple Australasia decided differently and told me to have my Powerbook fixed.
What is replaced/repaired?
Display/clamshell
Battery
Heatsink
Thermal pads
Logicboard
Including 9 hours of labor the total bill comes to an equivalent US$2400. I am still in warranty so it is Apple's problem but I am going to get Apple Care pretty fast as I do not like to be confronted with a bill like this after the warranty term.
The guys at the Apple Repair Center in Wellington did a wonderful job and thanks to them I can finally work again with my computer but when you look at the cost for Apple it makes you think why they did not swap it.

I had my screen and logic board replaced a few days before the 1 year warranty expired. Apple Care is not offered in Florida. 2 and a half months later the problem returned intermittently. The laptop is still usable but there are fine lines running down half the screen just like last time. Fortunately the repair warranty which is 90 days has not expired. Maybe after they fix it for the same problem after a third time I can (and will) demand a new one. The point is Apple care is worth the money if Apple allows it in your state. If I could get it I would have.

If apple allows? I bet its more of a case of the state of florida allowing, not apple.

Call Apple ASAP!
Any Applecare repair has a 3 month warranty, so get on the phone before then...

How do you figure? In any case, that's very strange.

Since when is it not available in Florida? I have a Tibook that I bought at the end of last August that I just purchased AppleCare for. If the new ipods don't come out by WWDC I am going to get it for that since it is cheaper than paying Apple to replace the battery. the Apple stores in Aventura. Wellington, and Boca all offer it as well as every CompUsa I have been in in Florida. Might want to check on that again.

Ever see those commercials for contests where they say "Not available in Blah Blah Blah". I am guessing that if Applecare does indeed not work in florida, there is something in the law that prevents apple from offering it without modifying its conditions. its not as if apple would single out florida for no reason.

Applecare as well as many other "Extended Service Plans" are not allowed in the state of Florida because of a law being passed quite a while ago(not sure when). I heard the reasoning behind it was that FL has a large elderly/retired population and they we're being taking advantage of by companies selling "Extended service plans/warranties". So a law was passed and now everyone gets screwed, good deal huh? There is a loophole though(isn't there always), if you own a company, you are allowed to purchase apple care and register the computer under your business.

Right, it just seems strange to me. Any Floridians in the house?

All apple products come with 90 days of PHONE TROUBLESHOOTING...
They come with a 1 year warranty, covering parts and labor. Don't be fooled.
If you KNOW you have a hardware problem, you can also call apple support outside that 90 day period as long as you push along the lines of you've narrowed it down to a hardware problem
