I have a 15" 1.5 Ghz Powerbook. and i can burn dvd+r's and dvd-r's without problem. but why doesn't apple support the burning onto dvd+r media?

i saw this on apple's support site for some bug and notice how dvd+r isn't posted.

Tip: You can burn CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-R discs depending on your computer's disc drive.

there was a thread in this powerbook forums which also mentions what types of dvd+r media work and most users have had no problems with different brands.

why isn't it supported if it works fine?

It's all politics. Apple is one of the companies in the DVD-R/RW consortium, so they want to support their standard.

Ooops, the group isn't called the DVD-R/RW Consortium, it's theDVD Forum that developed the DVD-R/RW standard.

You may want to read this article too under the section DVD Format Wars:

http://www.manifest-tech.com/media_dvd/dvd_format.htm

or this article

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/allcam/dvdformat.html

Basically, DVD-R/RW is seen as the true standard, and DVD+R/RW sorta weaselled it's way in as a standard
