Any reason to do this upgrade? I've stayed with 10.3.1 to avoid the fans coming on at a lower temperature which seemed to happen in 10.3.2+.

I wouldn't avoid the updates just because of the fan noise. The updates are far more important for system stability, bug fixes, and security reasons, than some noises from the fan. I have 10.3.4 on my Rev. A 12" PB and yes, the fan is on almost every time. But the PB is much cooler this way.

Doesn't sound "so cool" to me. The thought of a always-on fan to me is terrible!!! Think I'll stay put. I like the quiet.

Any other opinions would be welcome ESPECIALLY a workaround for this.

I was in the same situation. Hate the fan but want to have the latest updates.

I upgraded to 10.3.2 and sure enough within 2 minutes the fan was churning away. I downloaded and tried "Silent Night" but it didn't seem to work on my machine.

Then I found these instructions:

http://www.deleet.de/ray/pbfanfix.html

After that, the fan was back to "normal". I have since applied the incremental 10.3.3 and 10.3.4 upgrades and the fan is still the way it "should" be.

Good luck... just backup everything first before you try scary hacks like this!

Thanks Arty!! I'll give it a try! If I read the instructions correctly, it's just one extension you need to replace..correct?

In fact, the extension they say to copy to replace the updated version (AppleADM103x.kext v. 1.0.5) from 10.2.8 is the same version used 10.3.1.
