What is the best way to deal with warranty claims with Apple. My Powerbook is having problems, and while I am within the first year of purchase, and therefore covered by the warranty, I am no longer in the first 90 days and entitled to free phone support. Are we able to just ship it to apple and supply a list of what needs repaired, or are we forced to make the $49 phone call first ?

I am going to buy Applecare, but haven't done so yet as I have the entire first year to do it.

any tips appreciated

If you have an apple store near you, take it in there because their genius bar service is free for them to just look at your powerbook.

If you're sure that you've got a hardware problem, then don't hesitate to call the 800-number. People post their questions both here or in the Apple forums mainly to find out if perhaps their problems are software-related, because those won't be convered by Applecare.

As already posted, the Apple Store genius bar is a great resource.

Just call the 800 number. You don't have to pay to report a problem.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
