Hey guys

This isn't one of those crazy topics 'should I buy now or wait a lifetime' ...but it's kinda the same lines. I've been saving for an iBook (almost there) but just realized today that I have an Apple loan account to help me along. Crazy...apparently I've had the account since '02 and never used it.

Anyhow, I want a 14" iBook but I'm thinking I should wait until after WWDC at the end of the month. Here's my thoughts:

1. to make sure they don't release a new look for the iBooks (I doubt they will but you never know).

And 2. to get the new OS "Tiger" with the system.

I see on the apple.com homepage that they're advertising 'new iBooks' with the speed increase so they probably won't introduce a new update, right? What do you guys think? Will Tiger be put in all the new machines after the conference? I want to order through the online apple store, so will the new machines have the software installed or will I get a free upgrade?

I'm just looking for suggestions on what I should do.

Thanks!

You can wait till WWDC but there's not much chance of any changes to the current line. And you won't get Tiger either way. That won't be out till the Fall so even when they announce it at WWDC it won't be free with any computer until it ships.

Agreed^

There will probably not be a notebook update until the fall, at the earliest. Apple seems to be falling into a 9-month update pattern with the notebook lineup. So you may end up waiting until early 2005 unless Motorola manages to squeeze more juice out of the G4 before then or if development and refinement of a G5-based notebook design speeds up. Either way, the earliest you'll see an update will probably be the fall.

And yes, Tiger wont be shipping until the fall either.

Waiting 5+ more months to buy your machine so that it will ship with an updated version of OS X and because of a possible hardware update is just not 'logical'.

Buy now.

Ahh, okay. I assumed because the OS was being previewed that they would begin including it. Thanks, guys!

You might consider waiting until WWDC anyways - the current promotions end then, and I for one am expecting a repeat of last year's iPod deal (don't remember if they offered it on iBooks as well). Basically, it was an iPod for about $100 after rebate

Hmm, that would be neat!

Yeah, I probably will wait and then order at the end of the month - just to be on the safe side. Maybe they'll have a combo promo with the iPod mini - now that I would go for!!!
